In Nigeria, Africa’s population center, Oasis works with national booksellers.

For years, Nigeria suffered from a literature famine. Since we began operations in Nigeria in 1994, we have witnessed a significant increase in market the market’s literature availability. We distribute up to half a million books and Bibles a year in Nigeria. Now, through Oasis Distributions Limited, we work with Nigerian retailers of books and Bibles, helping them to overcome regional disparities in affordable book availability. In addition, Oasis provides real-world retail training to Nigerian booksellers to help them manage their inventories and increase sales.

In 2009 we purchased, renovated, and opened our new African Headquarters in Jos which now serves as a management hub in Africa and a distribution center for northern Nigeria. Additionally, we serve the coastal regions of the country from our warehouse in Lagos. From these strategic locations we equip hundreds of independent book- sellers. We look toward the day when booksellers from all over Africa will be able to visit our headquarters in Nigeria to receive hands-on training. You should come and visit!

Oasis Managing Director in Nigeria, Craig Ewoldt, is uniquely qualified to spearhead Oasis work. Craig taught successful retailing to hundreds of bookstores in the United States. He helped to build the current systems and structures that are used in this country to get books from publishers to bookstores. Now Craig has almost ten years of working on the ground with African bookstores. He brings knowledge of developed retail and distribution systems and applies it to the African context in a powerful way. In places where Craig has worked, bookstores have doubled, tripled, and quadrupled their sales in the long term.
